Lizzie O’Shea is a lawyer, writer, broadcaster, and founding board member at the Alliance. She is regularly featured in the media to comment on law, technology, and human rights. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Guardian, and Sydney Morning Herald, among others. Her recent book, Future Histories (Verso 2019), brings together histories of computing and social movements with modern theories of the mind, society, and self, to constructs a “usable past” to help us reclaim a democratic digital future. In 2020, Future Histories was shortlisted for a Victorian Premier's Literary Award. She is also a lawyer at Maurice Blackburn in the class actions team and has worked on cases challenging the power of the gambling industry in partnership with community groups.
