We are in the fight of our lives to get gambling ads banned and need the help of ordinary Australian’s.
A long overdue government response to the Murphy Inquiry parliamentary report into online gambling is now imminent.
There are well held fears that the Federal Government will deliver a ‘watered down’ response so as not to upset the gambling industry, the sporting codes and the television networks that all profit out of the pain caused by gambling.
Right now the Alliance for Gambling Reform is redoubling all of its efforts to put pressure on the government and the opposition to commit to a full ban on gambling advertising. We are also doing all we can to alert Australians to this critical moment of time.

On August 12, our open letter to the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader that called for a full ban on advertising, and was signed by former prime ministers and premiers, MPs, union leaders, sport, business, health, union and faith figures, academics, writers, social justice advocates and social service groups was published in major newspapers and received significant media attention that will not go unmissed by decision makers in Canberra but we can’t stop there.
Our small but dedicated team are working over-time, talking to politicians and people that can influence them as well as responding to TV, print, radio and digital media inquiries and making sure all Australian’s know that the time is NOW.
Our leaders in Federal Parliament need to put people before profits just as we did when we banned tobacco advertising.
Harmful products should not be marketed no matter how much revenue it gives TV networks and sports codes.
This fight is not over, and we will not give up.
